I love receiving phone calls, emails and texts from homeowners asking if I was available to visit their home or office space for a one time consultation or maybe a few more in the future as needed. For now they are simply looking for some ideas on how they could refresh their existing space. They feel stuck and seek the advice of a professional Design and Decor consultant. Some wish to use their existing furniture and maybe change a sofa, desk, chair or curtains. They are looking for guidance to start the process with a fresh pair of eyes. They are happy to hear that yes I do provide this service on an hourly basis.
What we review together at your Home Consultation (usually from one to three hours) depends on your priority list.
I make suggestions to help improve your space to reflect more of you. Is your floor plan working for you functionally? What can be done to make it work better for you? Does it flow with how you move throughout your space? Move some items or omit and donate. What new suggestions for your space will make things more comfortable for you?
- Lighting: Are you comfortable in your space with regards to lighting from tasks, to meals at the table to relaxing with a book. Does the lighting work for you throughout your day?
- Seating: does this work for you ergonomically and does it suit your daily needs. How about when you host?
- Flooring: Does the current tile or hardwood, carpet or area rugs reflect you and your style?
- Art: Do you love what you have hanging in your home? Art should make you feel good. Are your Family photos displayed how you wish them to be and deserve to be.
- Storage: Do you have too little or too much storage? Do you need home organizers to serve you better or are you ready to declutter. I can also help with this
- Aesthically beautifying your space: to you love your space? You should. You deserve to. I can help it be a reflection of you. At our consultation we discuss your needs, your wants and what brings you peace in your home so that you don’t feel overwhelmed with belongings that you no longer need or need to improve on to suit your lifestyle today.
- Accoustics: Are the finishes and design in your home helping your with the level of sound
The following are some common requests I receive for continued Consultation return visits:
- Paint colour: The new paint colour request could be for one priority room or multiple areas.
- Sourcing wallpaper for the Powder room, bedrooms, bathrooms, upscale laundry rooms, Living and Family rooms.
- New flooring ideas such as hardwood, tiles, painted concrete finishes for the garage, rubber flooring for the gyms, carpet or area rugs for the bedrooms or library and even leather flooring for home theatres.
- Updating the kitchen: from consultation advice on only changing their island to suit their current style and needs now to a repaint colour consultation of the cabinets. I am happy to meet with you at your preferred Kitchen cabinet design centre or if you don’t have one, I am happy to provide a few options depending on your budget.
- Beautifying laundry rooms from cabinets to lighting to function to making it wow with special accents such as a grand laundry faucet and sink to wood wall trim and wallpaper. Sometime even a beautiful chandelier on a dimmer and all of a sudden the laundry room door stays open and an addition to your home’s beauty.
- Children’s bedrooms improvements as they grow out of what their needs were previously. Do they want different colours? Maybe a larger bed or desk or adjusting the storage. Perhaps different flooring or their ensuite style has changed. May they want to change their shower into a bathtub with a shower or vice versa.
- Changing additional bedrooms into Guest bedrooms or hobby rooms such as painting to collecting to libraries or offices once the Children have grown into adults and left the home and into their own.
- Libraries are having a big comeback where hardcopy cherished books are displayed and enjoyed in this quiet space.
- Window coverings: changes from simple coverings to more layered options with rods and double layered curtains with black our or sheer blinds. Sometimes it is the reverse where the layers are removed and they prefer the more modern simple blind that still has the luxury statement, only minimized.
- Add or changing an existing window seat. Reupholstering their existing chairs because they are of good quality frames or discarding temporary furniture and they are ready to invest in higher quality sold wood to last.
- I have also had requests to change only their host and hostess chairs into something wow and grander to add a refresher to their existing set when they are not ready to change out all their chairs that might be starting the wear and are not fixable.
- Adding and or upgrading wood trim from applied chair rails to wainscotting to wall decor trim.
- Adding custom mirrors in certain areas of the home to reflect the natural sunlight or other areas in the home to provide a feeling of more space in smaller areas.
- Changing light fixtures into something that make them feel better and reflects their style.
- Consultations on any small or larger renovations from space to only aesthetics.
- Architectural interior details
- Architectural exterior details from bricks to stone, metal roof colour advise, window details from style to colour, stucco colour
- Consultations on the exterior from the curb appeal to the backyard and surrounding areas
- Deck stain colours
- Pool details from tiles that reflect the water colour to surrounding non slip flooring
- Fountain accents around the pool.
